What Is “Kokumi”?
The name KŌKUMI is from "Kokumi” (コク味) , a scientific-neologism, coined in the 1980s & 1990s, which describes a "sixth taste" — a heightened, layered mouthfeel. It is not a flavour in itself, but one that enhances depth, complexity, and richness in everything it touches.
The term combines コク (“koku”: depth, and rich full-bodied sensation) and 味 (“mi”: (“taste").
We sometimes use the phonetic katakana: コクミ or コクみ to honour the concept's origins while making it clear we're a global business inspired by this philosophy, not claiming Japanese identity.
It is a wonderful metaphor for what we do: we don't replace your brand's voice, we enhance it, adding the depth and connections that transform good into unforgettable.

Founder, Lead Sales and Marketing Rep
With over 14 years of experience spanning brand building, business development, and partnerships, Lindsay brings a rare cross-industry fluency to the luxury travel space. Her background — shaped by a decade in the travel industry, as well as roles in the tech, and creative industries —fuels a strategic, design-led approach to growth. As an independent consultant, she’s known for crafting tailored, commercially-minded solutions that help brands thrive. At the heart of her work is a passion for collaboration over competition, meaningful upliftment, and an inclusive, sustainable, culture-forward travel industry.
Born in New York City and raised in Paris, Lindsay is a dual citizen of the United States and South Africa. She has called Cape Town home for over 16 years. She’s a passionate advocate for sustainability and DEI, and finds joy in riding, wine, music, exploration, a great martini, and time spent by the ocean with her partner and her dog, Kaida.
Lindsay is fluent in French and conversational in Spanish. Combined with being a “tri-culture kid”, these give Lindsay an added edge in opening up new markets for your brand.
